Dr. Christina Goodwin, Ph.D.

Beginning therapy and meeting a new psychologist can feel both exciting…. and sometimes overwhelming! Where do I start? What do I talk about? Will I ‘vibe’ or ‘click’ with them? What do I want from therapy?

As a licensed clinical psychologist, I take a person-centered approach to help clients feel like the best version of themselves. In a relatable, friendly, and sometimes humorous way, I explain complex psychological processes to help clients gain insight and meet their personal therapy goals.

I provide individual psychotherapy via telehealth for adults (18-60). I do not offer in-office visits

GENERAL MENTAL HEALTH AND STRESS

To help clients meet their personal goals, I incorporate various research-supported therapeutic approaches such as motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness, and short-term solution focused therapy to help adults:

  • reduce anxiety and excessive worry
  • reduce social anxiety, improve communication
  • improve self-esteem, confidence, and feelings of self-worth
  • learn strategies to cope with everyday stressors
  • overcome procrastination; cope with ADHD symptoms
  • cope with stressful life events and life transitions (e.g., transitioning to college, job or career change, divorce or break-ups, grief and loss, retirement)

HEALTH PSYCHOLOGY AND BEHAVIORAL MEDICINE

As a fellowship-trained clinical health psychologist, I can help clients with co-occurring medial conditions live a healthy life that is consistent with their personal values. To that end, I help clients:

  • make and maintain healthy behavior and lifestyle changes (such as diet, physical activity,
    tobacco cessation, and medication adherence)
  • establish a ‘new normal’ after a serious medical event or catastrophic injury
  • learn how to live alongside a chronic medical condition
  • cope with a new diagnosis of heart disease, COPD, or cancer
  • address anxiety and worry about an upcoming medical procedure
  • overcome insomnia

READINESS ASSESSMENTS FOR GENDER-AFFIRMING PROCEDURES AND SURGERIES

I am a gender-affirming provider and have worked with many adults who identify as transgender or non-binary. At Atlanta CBT, I conduct readiness assessments for gender-affirming procedures/surgeries per the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Standards of Care (SOC) guidelines. Your surgeon may have casually referred to this as a “psych evaluation” or “mental health letter of support.”

Please know, my role in conducting this assessment is to confirm a gender dysphoria diagnosis (often needed for insurance purposes) and to help identify any additional logistical and emotional support you may benefit from before and after the surgery. My role is to help you have the best possible surgical outcome.

Prior to our visit, you will be asked to complete several self-report measures and to sign a release of information allowing me to share the report with your surgical team. If you are currently working with a therapist or psychiatrist, you’ll need to sign a release allowing me to confirm information with them. These assessments are typically completed in one visit.

MY AVAILABILITY

I am on Eastern Time (ET) and provide services via telehealth only:

  • Monday thru Thursday: evenings
  • Friday, Saturday, and Sunday: 8:30am to 11:30am

I am fully-licensed as a psychologist in New Jersey. As a PsyPact member psychologist, I am permitted to
provide therapy via telehealth to patients in the following states: AL, AZ, AR, CO, Commonwealth of the
Northern Mariana Islands, CT, DE, District of Columbia, GA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, ME, MD, MI, MN, MO, NE,
